On behalf of the planning Committee I am delighted to invite you to attend the 6th International Conference on Early Psychosis, Early Intervention – The Next Wave, between the 20 – 22 October 2008 in the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia.

The 2008 conference will act as a foundation upon which ideas can be exchanged, experiences shared, education developed and innovation inspired.

National and international speakers will come together to:

  • Highlight the latest progress in research and clinical care in early psychosis
  • Focus on linkages across diagnostic groups in early intervention
  • Consider the relationships between different stages of illness
  • Promote further international collaboration and reform

The first international conference focusing exclusively on early psychosis, titled 'Verging on Reality', was held in Melbourne, Australia, in June 1996. At this initial Conference, a strong feeling emerged that an international association was needed to share information about research occurring in different parts of the world. Consequently, in August 1998, the International Early Psychosis Association was officially incorporated in the state of Victoria, Australia.

Held every two years, the IEPA conference has since developed into one of the largest international gatherings of clinicians and researchers focusing exclusively on first episode psychosis (FEP) disorders in the world. The past themes of the IEPA Conferences reflected the rapid growth in the field of early psychosis demonstrating the tremendous progress in both clinical work and research in early psychosis.

In 2008, we are excited to bring this meeting back to where it all began- Melbourne, Australia. In this our 6th International Conference we extend the warmest of invitations to you to attend and participate in what will be an excellent opportunity for the sharing of experiences and the exchanging of ideas.

We hope you can participate in what will be a stimulating program and we look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne in October 2008.
